AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE (10) WITH A ROTARY ACTUATOR (11), A SIGNAL GENERATOR (12) AND A CONTROLLER (13). IN RESPONSE TO ACTUATION OF ROTARY ACTUATOR (11), SIGNALS ARE GENERATED BY SIGNAL GENERATOR (12) AND PROVIDED TO CONTROLLER (13). THE SIGNALS FROM SIGNAL GENERATOR (12) ARE TO EFFECT FUNCTIONS OF EITHER A FIRST MODE OF OPERATION OR A SECOND MODE OF OPERATION OF ELECTRONIC DEVICE (10). BASED ON TIME BETWEEN THE SIGNALS, CONTROLLER (13) EXECUTES A FUNCTION CORRESPONDING TO ONE OF THE TWO MODES OF OPERATION. WHEN THE SIGNALS ARE RECEIVED WITHIN A PREDETERMINED TIME DURATION, AN ACTUATION CODE IS DERIVED BY CONTROLLER (13). THIS ACTUATION CODE IS COMPARED WITH FUNCTION CODES, STORED IN A MEMORY (19), ASSOCIATED WITH FUNCTIONS OF THE SECOND MODE OF OPERATION. WHEN MATCHED TO A FUNCTION CODE, ONE OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE SECOND MODE OF OPERATION IS EXECUTED. (FIG. 3)
