The unit has outer and inner envelopes (10, 11) integrated with each other, by welding at their ends (13, 14), to form a hollow cylinder (16). A reinforcement unit (12) is inserted and welded between the envelopes at the level of the ends, and extends in the cylinder. The reinforcement unit is oriented parallel with respect to a longitudinal plane of a motor vehicle to optimize size of a section of the unit.
