The starter has a speed reducing gear for reducing rotational speed of an electric motor (2), in sequence, in two steps for transmitting a torque to an engine in order to start the engine. The reducing gear has two reduction planetary gear train mechanisms (17, 18) including sun gears (19, 26), respectively mounted on an armature shaft (14) of the engine and mounted in a removable manner on an output shaft (25) of the mechanism (17).
