A disc device is provided with a traverse base (5) which can shift between a record reproducing position and a waiting position, with an optical pickup (2) and a turntable (1) mounted thereon; a front cover (3) provided with a disc placing plane (3a) whereupon a disc (4) is to be placed, and an opening (3b) formed on the disc placing plane (3a), permitting the turntable (1) to be inserted when the traverse base (5) shifts between the record reproducing position and the waiting position; and a centering member (8) which holds and transfers the disc (4) to a position where the center of the disc (4) matches with the center of the turntable (1). The disc can be easily mounted with a high degree of freedom.
