PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solenoid valve having a breathing passage communicating to an outside with surely preventing intrusion of foreign matter from an outside into a rear end chamber formed between a rear end surface of a plunger and a bottom surface of a cover at low cost. SOLUTION: A plunger is attracted to a core by electromagnetic force when a coil is energized, a spool valve is moved together with the plunger with resisting against spring force to control flow area between each port opening on a valve hole. When volume of the rear end chamber 35 formed between the rear end surface of the plunger and the bottom surface of the cover is changed by movement of the plunger, working fluid retained in the breathing passage 36 flows in and out of the rear end chamber. The breathing passage 36 is formed of a recess groove formed on a resin made outer circumference surface of a coil body and a cylindrical inner circumference surface of a cover fitted in the outer circumference surface. Since volume of the breathing passage 36 is larger than volume change quantity of the rear end chamber 35 by movement of the plunger, working fluid having foreign matter mixed in never flows into the rear end chamber 35 from the outside.
