The silencer for a flue gas pipe (14) of a heating system with a passage section (10) with an absorber (20) for sound absorption. The passage section is formed by a pipe insert (10) fitted in an end pipe section (12) of the flue gas pipe on the flue side. The outside diameter of the sleeve-form pipe insert is smaller than the clear width of the end pipe. The pipe insert is supported with positive locking on the flue opening (36) of the end pipe preferably by a radially protruding end ring (34) or collar.
