PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide conversion means which is suitable for reducing the low-frequency content of a modulated signal. SOLUTION: Information pattern comprises first and second parts alternating in the direction of the track; the first parts present a first property that is detectable and the second parts present a second property that is distinguishable; the first parts and the second parts represent bit cells having a first signal value and a second signal value, respectively and comprise n bit cells having a first and a second theoretical values; and each information signal portion belongs to a predetermined first group of the information signal portions, establishing the coding state of a first type and specifically establishing an information word or belongs to a second group of information signal portions establishing a coding state of a second type and generating a specific information word, in combination with a succeeding information signal portion and is selected from a set of information signal portions. The record carrier succeeds an information signal portion, establishing the first type of coding state and the information signal portion follows, which is selected dependent on the low-frequency content of the modulated signal from a set belonging to the established coding state or from a set belonging to a different coding state of the first type.
