This invention discloses a multi-standard information recording medium storing a partition table. Multiple programme compressed data, program navigation information f each program for dividing the program compressed da a into multiple segments and system navigation information for controlling the segments of program is also stored on the medium. This invention also discloses a method and apparatus for recording the information on said multi-standard information recording medium, and a method and apparatus for playing the information recorded on the information medium. Said playing method and apparatus can play other standard medium compatibly. Since multiple standards compressed data can be stored on the multi-standard information recording medium of this invention simultaneously and can be played by the playing apparatus of this invention, it can be used by user more conveniently.
