PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine capable of surely delivering the will of a sender to a recipient even when the recipient is a child or an elderly person. SOLUTION: The facsimile machine includes an additional function section 11 for providing an additional function to the facsimile machine in addition to a buffer memory section 6 for binarizing a read image from an original 1 and temporarily storing the binarized image and a communication control section 10 for carrying out transmission/reception control. An SD card 13 loads a program to the additional function section 11 via a slot of an SD card IF section 12 thereby setting each function section of an OCD section 110, a kana (Japanese syllabary) conversion section 112, and a dictionary section 111 in an executionable way. The OCR section 110 extracts a character part from the image data temporarily stored in the buffer memory section 6, recognizes characters from the character part, converts the characters into text data, and the kana conversion section 112 references the dictionary section 111 to convert the text data into kana letters.
