PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device using an electron emission element capable of forming an image of excellent color purity and at the same time forming an image of high brightness and high contrast, by lowering color drift through restraint of halation. SOLUTION: A thickness of an accelerating electrode 7 satisfies a relation of T1<T2, provided that a thickness of a part corresponding to a center part 9 of a light-emitting member 6 is T1, and that of a part corresponding to an end part 10 of the light-emitting member 6 is T2. Therefore, the energy loss of the scattered electron, made incident again on the end part 10 of the light emitting member 6, out of that made incident again on the light emitting member 6, becomes large, and halation brightness of the above scattered electron is lowered when the scattered electron is transmitted through an acceleration electrode 7, and halation brightness of the light-emitting member as a whole is also lowered. Further, the part with the thickness T1 of the accelerating electrode 7 corresponding to the center part 9 of the light-emitting member 6 is kept thin as it is, therefore, electron energy of the electron emitted from the electron emission element 4, at the time of incident on the light emitting member 6, is kept high, and brightness of bright-spot is not lowered.
