The motor vehicle seat has a seat section (2) with a seat back (1) pivotably connected to it, whereby the seat back can be folded from an upright in-use position into an approximately horizontal table position. A guide unit (4) is rigidly installed on the seat section and interacts with a rotatable element (5) installed on the seat back so that the pivot axis (S) of seat back during the folding from the in-use position into the table position is raised. The guide unit includes a gear rack (6) and the rotatable element is constructed as pinion meshing with it.
