<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form images on used paper while preventing failures. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 has a thickness sensor 50, which detects the thickness of used paper and the thickness of an image formed on one side of the used paper. According to the detected thickness of the image, the image forming apparatus 1 determines whether the image formed on the used paper is an ink image or a toner image. When determining that the image is the ink one, the apparatus 1 ejects the paper out without forming an image on the used paper. When determining that the image is the toner one, the apparatus 1 prevents image quality failure and paper conveyance failure by controlling a transfer electric field, fixing temperature, and paper conveyance speed according to the thickness of the used paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
