<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent firing or the like in a fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: the fixing device (F) having a heater (h) and fixing a toner image on recording paper; a heater heating circuit (4) having the heater (h), and a heater on/off control switch (7) and a power supply cutoff switch (6) which are connected to the heater (h) in series; a heater on/off control switch control means (C4) for controlling the temperature of the heater (h) by controlling the on/off of the heater on/off control switch (7); and an image forming impossibility detection means (SNO) detecting whether or not image forming operation is impossible.
