PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for substantially sealing a coupling gel on the contact surface between the operating surface and the epidermis. SOLUTION: In an apparatus and a method for providing and using a gel containment structure to an ultrasonic delivery system. The ultrasonic delivery system, to be used for medical treatment, comprises a base, an ultrasonic wave generating means including the exposed transmitting surface 22, mounted on the base and disposed adjacent to the epidermis, and an enclosure means 10 for sealing and holding the coupling substance substantially adjacent to the operating surface 22 and separating the operating surface 22 from the epidermis. The enclosure means constitutes a closed pad 40 into which the coupling gel is injected. The pad 40 comprises a rear surface part 44 in contact with the operating surface 22 of the ultrasonic generating means and disposed very close to the operation surface, and a front part 48 elastic enough to follow the shape of the surface of the epidermis.
