PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver and a broadcast receiving method which place a limit on broadcast reception operations in response to a reception environment of terrestrial broadcasting so as to prevent useless reception operations from being executed. SOLUTION: The broadcast receiver includes: reception means 43 to 46, 48 to 53, 61 for receiving a plurality of kinds of broadcast programs with different broadcast forms; selection means 16, 17, 47, 61 for selectively switching a prescribed broadcast on the basis of a switching request from a plurality of kinds of the broadcast programs received by the reception means 43 to 46, 48 to 53 and providing an output of the selected broadcast program; processing means 47, 55, 58, 61 for reproducing a signal corresponding to the program from the broadcast program selected by the selection means 16, 17, 47, 61; and a setting means 61 for setting disabled switching to a prescribed broadcast program among a plurality of kinds of the broadcast programs receptible by the reception means 43 to 46, 48 to 53, and 61.
