摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device for a liquid crystal display device which can reduce a picture frame width by forming a scattering pattern on the whole lower face of a light guide plate and by arranging at least one set of monochromatic light sources which emit light at a constant directional angle on the side face of a light guide plate even if the width of the liquid crystal display device is not increased. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight device arranged at the lower part of a liquid crystal panel of the liquid crystal display device is composed of the light guide plate having a flat upper face and a scattering pattern formed on a lower face and transmitting light to the liquid crystal panel; and at least a plurality of the monochromatic light sources installed in a row on the side face of the light guide plate so that light is emitted along the plane direction between the upper and the lower faces of the light guide plate. In the monochromatic light sources, the light emitted from the plurality of monochromatic light sources is mixed, and light is emitted at a predetermined vertical directional angle so that only light traveling beyond a standard length needed for forming white light reaches the scattering pattern. By forming the scattering pattern on the whole lower face of the light guide plate like this, and by arranging the monochromatic light sources emitting the light at a constant directional angle on the side face of the light guide plate, the picture frame width can be reduced without increasing the thickness of the liquid crystal display device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
