<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly irradiate a marker beam of a predetermined beam pattern composed of a linear beamlet or a combination of linear beamlets in an optical information reading apparatus provided with a marker beam irradiating means. <P>SOLUTION: A marker beam for showing a reading position irradiated to a reading target by the marker beam irradiating unit 16 is composed of four L-shaped patterns corresponding to four corner parts of an imaging field of view of a light receiving sensor and a cross-shaped pattern showing its center. In the marker beam irradiating unit 16, a laser diode 33 as a light beam source, a condensing lens for condensing laser 34 beams of the laser diode 33, a pattern forming lens 35 for forming a pattern of the maker beam, an image forming lens 36 for forming the marker beam on the reading target and a diaphragm 37 are directed toward the front and arranged in this order.
