A rear spoiler (2) for a vehicle has a recessed mounting inside the contour of the vehicle between the lower edge of the rear hatch (4) and the top edge of the rear bumper (5). The spoiler is deployed by a servo drive (3) and has a front edge (6) which blocks airflow under the spoiler in the deployed setting.
