<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contrast in a projection type image display apparatus (a projector) using a reflection type liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: The projector has a projection lens which projects light from the reflection type liquid crystal panel for blue color and red color and a 1st polarized beam splitter which guides S polarized light among red light from a light source to a liquid crystal panel for red color, guides P polarized light among light from the liquid crystal panel for red color to the projection lens, guides P polarized light among blue light from the light source to a liquid crystal panel for blue color and guides S polarized light among light from the liquid crystal panel for blue color to the projection lens. Further between the 1st polarized beam splitter and the projection lens, the projector has a 1st polarizing plate and a 1st 1/4 wavelength plate which transmit one among the S polarized light and the P polarized light and absorb another in turn from a side of the 1st polarized beam splitter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
