PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic storage device capable of freely changing arrangement of a rack in a storage warehouse and optionally setting the storage condition of an article to be stored on the rack. SOLUTION: The automatic storage device 1 is provided with the storage warehouse 2 detachably storing a plurality of kinds of shelves 4; a shelf detection means 5 for reading a bar code (mark) 6 attached to the rack 4 and detecting the kind and arrangement of the rack 4; a conveying means 3 for conveying and positioning a micro-plate (article to be stored); an entrance/exit 8 capable of being automatically opened/closed; an article to be stored detection means 7 for reading the bar code (mark) attached to the micro-plate and detecting the kind and arrangement of the micro-plate; and a control device (control means) 9. The control device 9 controls the conveying means 3 and opening/closing of the entrance/exit 8 based on kind information of the shelf 4 detected by the detection means 5, arrangement information of the micro-plate detected by the detection means 7 and the kind of the micro-plate stored/shipped from the entrance/exit 8.
