A metal hydride storage vessel has a hydrogenatable metal powder filled in a hydride chamber (1, 19, 20) with at least one gap (2, 6, 9) whose breadth is below or equal to that of the hydride particle diameter. An independent claim is also included for production of the vessel by filling the hydrogenatable powder in chambers (1, 19, 20) and closing such that a gap (2, 6, 9) of the required breadth remains, thus hindering the escape of the powder particles.
