A drive system for a long shaft with an electric motor and a motor control unit to set the speed of rotation of the shaft, also has another motor with its own control unit, coupled to the shaft and designed to generate a given torque in the shaft at any speed determined by the first motor. A driving system for a long shaft (MZ, TW) with (a) at least one first electric motor (A) which is coupled with the shaft at a first point in such a way that the shaft turns at a speed determined by the speed of the motors output shaft and (b) a motor control unit which can determine the speed of the motor shaft in operation. The system also has at least one other electric motor (B) at a second, separate point, which is coupled with the shaft and designed in such a way that, at any speed determined by (A), motor (B) can generate a given torque in the shaft as directed by its own separate motor control unit. Independent claims are also included for (1) a stretching unit for a long-part machine with at least two long shafts, at least one of which is provided with a driving system as above, so that the speed ratio of the shafts (delay between shafts) can be set as required by fixing the speed of motor (A) (2) a stretching unit as above in which the speed ratio of the long shafts can be set as required by fixing the speed ratio of the two first motors (A) (3) a ring spinning frame with a first long shaft for delivering driving forces to the spindles at the spinning points and with a stretching unit as above, in which the first shaft also has a driving system as above (4) a long machine with a stretching unit, an extraction duct and an auxiliary motor to produce torque at a point between the ends of the stretching unit cylinder, in which the extraction duct has at least one part with a relatively small cross-section and at least part of the auxiliary motor occupies the space freed by reducing the cross-section of the duct (5) a driving system with at least two motors as above for a long shaft, in which the shaft is divided into at least two sections, both connected to the motor shaft of the auxiliary torque-producing motor by means of a torque transfer medium. .
