Adhesive(11) is delivered from a storage unit(10) into a bath(6). A transfer plunger(15) picks up the adhesive portion, transfers it onto a tool and presses it onto the surface where it adheres. The adhesive bath(6) is filled with adhesive until flush with the upper edge. All adhesive in the bath is picked up by the transfer plunger(15). At least two successive applications may be made to build up sufficient adhesive thickness. Adhesive filling of the bath and transfer to the workpiece(13) are automatically repeated. Flock is dispensed onto the adhesive-coated workpiece surface. An independent claim is included for the adhesive application equipment which has an adhesive storage container(10) and an adhesive transfer unit. The transfer unit includes an adhesive bath and an adhesive transfer plunger which is guided and pressed into the adhesive bath before moving to the tool holder. The plunger moves onto the tool for adhesive application and then returns to the bath.
