PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of enhancing a cooling efficiency by appropriately sending much more cooling air from a ventilation means to a cooling object and realizing miniaturization, and to provide a projection display device having the light source device. SOLUTION: The light source device is equipped with an axial fan 14 and a light source lamp 1, and sends the cooling air from the axial fan 14 to the light source lamp 1 side through a vent hole 15a provided between the axial fan and the light source lamp, and then is constituted so that the center position of the vent hole 15a may not be aligned with the optical axis position of the light source lamp 1. To put it concretely, the center position of the vent hole 15a is shifted in a reverse direction to the rotation tangential direction of the axial fan at the vent hole. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
