PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the speed of an intermediate transfer body such as an intermediate transfer belt so as to keep the speed constant. SOLUTION: The image forming device comprises a rotatable intermediate transfer body 12 which supports a toner image, an intermediate transfer body driving roller 15 which rotatably drives the intermediate transfer body 12, and a transfer unit 13 which transfers the toner image on the intermediate transfer body 12 to a recording medium P. Whenμ<SB>α</SB>denotes a friction coefficient between the intermediate transfer body 12 and the intermediate transfer body driving roller 15 along the travelling direction of the intermediate transfer body 12, andμ<SB>β</SB>denotes a friction coefficient between the intermediate transfer body 12 and the recording medium P; the inequality ofμ<SB>α</SB>>μ<SB>β</SB>is satisfied. By this arrangement, the occurrence of the state that the intermediate transfer body 12 closely contacts the recording medium P and is speed-controlled by the recording medium P can be prevented, and a color shift can also be prevented which may occur when a plurality of toner images of different colors are transferred to the intermediate transfer body 12, since the speed Vb of the intermediate transfer body 12 is kept constant by the intermediate transfer body driving roller 15.
