PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold designing method which can reduce man-days and costs by determining the size of a contraction part by forecasting the amount of a sink generated in the surface of a resin component in advance. SOLUTION: The mold 2 is provided with a cavity 3 formed according to the shape of the resin component 1 and an air vent 6 which makes the cavity communicate with the outside of the mold, and the contraction part 7 is formed in the air vent at a position adjacent to the cavity. When the leakage of gas leaked from the cavity through the contraction part 7 isΣQg while a molten resin is supplied to the mold and the cavity is gate-sealed by the molten resin, the amount Vg of the sink generated in the surface of the resin component molded by the mold is calculated by the forecasting formula: Vg=TP<SB>0</SB>(V<SB>0</SB>-KΣQg)/T<SB>0</SB>Pg, and the size of the constrictive part is determined based on the forecasting formula.
