PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance processing capacity of a printer at the time of recording a plurality of color images while preventing waste of recording medium and deterioration of image due to variation in load during transfer of the recording medium. SOLUTION: After being transferred toward the downstream side in the transfer direction while opposing the first-third image regions to thermal heads 73a, 72a and 71a without printing an image, a sheet is transferred reversely toward the upstream side in the transfer direction while printing an image corresponding to cyan in the first image region by a thermal head 73a, an image corresponding to magenta in the second image region by a thermal head 72a, and an image corresponding to yellow in the third image region by a thermal head 71a. Subsequently, printing in respective image regions are carried out continuously while repeating transfer of the sheet not printing an image to one image region on the downstream side in the transfer direction and reverse transfer of the sheet printing an image to one image region on the upstream side in the transfer direction alternately.
