The production process for a hollow component (1) involves shaping or directing one of the two sheet cutouts (e.g. 5) of the double plate so that when it is assembled on the other sheet cutout, its edge region projects as a single flange (2), at least in sections, beyond the edge of the other sheet cutout before a welding with a weld seam (7). Holding force is exerted by the hold-down device during the internal high pressure deformation only on this edge.
