<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode for lithium based battery of which problem of electrolyte solution permeability and electrolyte solution retaining property are improved for realizing a high density cathode necessary for achieving a high energy-density battery. <P>SOLUTION: The cathode for the lithium based battery consists of an active material capable of storing and releasing lithium ion, a carbon based conductive assistant, and a binder, of which, an added volume of the carbon based conductive assistant is 0.1 to 2% by mass, carbon fiber with an average diameter of 1 to 200 nm is contained in the carbon based conductive assistant, and a volume ratio of the active material capable of storing and releasing lithium ion is 70% or more.
