<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct unevenness in density of an image without requiring extra running costs. <P>SOLUTION: This color thermal printer 2 is equipped with a system controller 19 for controlling the drive of a thermal head 16, and a densitometer 23 for measuring the density of the image. The system controller 19 computes a difference Δ between a desired density and the result of the measurement of the density of the image, brought about by the densitometer 23, after ordinary image recording is performed by driving the thermal head 16 by using n%, e.g. 50%, of recording energy required for the recording of the image, adjusts remaining 50% of the recording energy so that the desired density can be acquired according to the result of computing, and makes the ordinary image recording performed by driving the thermal head 16 through the use of the adjusted recording energy.
