PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for confirming whether an engine is started or not with high precision in remote start operation of the engine of an automobile. SOLUTION: This method comprises a process (S5) for measuring battery voltage immediately after application of voltage to a self-starting motor is stopped as reference voltage V<SB>0</SB>, a process (S6) for measuring battery voltage V<SB>1</SB>after predetermined time elapses after application of voltage to the self-starting motor is stopped, and a process for determining that the engine is started when difference in voltage V<SB>1</SB>-V<SB>0</SB>is above predetermined difference in voltage (S7) and determining that engine start is failure when difference in voltage V<SB>1</SB>-V<SB>0</SB>is predetermined difference in voltage.
