PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color measuring instrument and color measuring method for calculating a color difference with high accuracy even if the brightness of a lighting system varies. SOLUTION: The color measuring instrument 100 is characterized in that a color image selected from among color images taken by a camera 121 is stored as a reference image in a second memory 112B, and that, when calculating a color difference between the reference image and another color image, color difference calculation is performed with brightness components removed from the reference image and from the color image.
