An LED light engine (10) includes a flexible electrical cable (12) and a plurality of LEDs (16). The flexible electrical cable (12) includes first conductor (22), second conductor (24) and third conductor (26) and electrically insulating covering (28) for electrical conductors. The conductors are arranged substantially parallel with one another having an insulating material therebetween. A first LED including a first lead electrically connects to the second conductor. A second LED includes a first lead electrically connected to the second conductor and a second lead electrically connected to the third conductor. The third LED is interposed between the first and the second LED.
