A data logger has an outer case around a motion sensor with a battery and a memory device. The data logger is of a size that may be conveniently positioned within a bulk quantity of agricultural products such as potatoes or carrots, and records the sum total of shock motion and vibration to which the bulk load is subjected during transit. The data logger further incorporates a transponder that releases the data to a nearby receiver on receipt of a command signal. The working frequency is 433 MHz.
