PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method, by which the occurrence of density unevenness, gloss unevenness and coloring defects of an image is suppressed and superior thin line reproducibility is ensured, even when an image is formed on transfer paper such as plain paper using a small-diameter toner by a full-color copying machine or printer adopting an indirect dry type electrophotographic system. SOLUTION: In the image forming method including at least a fixing step of forming an image by fixing an unfixed toner image, formed on a surface of transfer paper having voids near the surface and consisting of one or more layers by the application of heat and pressure, a toner used for forming the unfixed toner image has a volume average particle diameter of≤5μm, a layer, constituting an image forming surface of the transfer paper on which the unfixed toner image is fixed, has an apparent density of≥0.80 g/m<SP>3</SP>and a formation index of≥25, and the image forming surface has a ten-point average surface roughness Rz of≤15μm.
