PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the dispersion of strength near a seam welded pipe when subjected to high frequency quenching. SOLUTION: This power transmission shaft 1 comprises the seam welded pipe formed of a steel material and subjected to plastic working to form a hollow shaft raw material with a large diameter portion and small diameter portions at the axial intermediate and both axial sides. Required machining work is applied to the hollow shaft raw material, followed by high frequency quenching. The steel material for the seam welded pipe is selected out of 1-5 grade ferrite bands each having a sectional structure parallel to the direction of hot rolling. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
