PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muddy water treatment system capable of treating a large quantity of muddy water at a low cost, and to provide a muddy water treatment method therefor. SOLUTION: In the muddy water treatment system: muddy water is retained in a retainment part 2 formed of a furrow 2a surrounding a prescribed site; surplus water in the surface layer of the muddy water is overflown at an overflow furrow 2b as a part of the furrow; the overflown muddy water is introduced into a muddy water filtering groove 3 paved with a packing material 3b supplying soil grains; a soil grain flocculant is added to the muddy water discharged from the muddy water filtering groove 3 by a flocculant adding unit 4; a mixed liquid of the soil grain flocculant and the muddy water is pumped up from the bottom part in a mixing stirring tank 5 and is jetted from the surface of the water face, so as to discharge the surplus water in the surface layer thereof; the discharged mixed liquid is received at either region partitioned by the upper partition cylinder 6a in a precipitation separation tank 6; a soil grain flocculated body 21 is precipitated and separated at a communicating section in the lower part; and the surplus water in the surface layer is exhausted from the partitioned other region in the upper part.
