The invention described herein includes a molecular switch (10), comprising: a donor subunit (12); an acceptor subunit (16); and an aromatic bridging subunit (20) comprising one or more aromatic bridging subunit 20 and for bonding the acceptor subunit 16 to the aromatic bridging subunit 20 wherein the aromatic bridging subunit 20 is conformable in a manner effective for polarizing and de-polarizing the molecular switch 10 at a low electric field voltage.
