PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To favorably maintain gear actuation performance even when engagement gaps in reduction gear teeth get narrower. SOLUTION: Coating treatment is applied to gear teeth 3a of a worm 3, where the coating treatment comprises diamond-like carbon film of a lower friction coefficient than that of metal material used. Specifically, base material of the worm 3 of metal is S45C tempered material. To this base material, hardening treatment is applied by induction hardening and annealing to form a hard layer HL. After that, the gear teeth 3a are ground, and polishing treatment (with a barrel) is performed. On the surface of the gear teeth 3a of the worm 3, the diamond-like carbon film DLC is coated. Even when the engagement gaps between the gear teeth 2a and 3a are narrowed, gear actuation performance is maintained favorable. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
