The gripping surface (1) of a hand tool, e.g. a screwdriver or a sports bat or racquet, has a flocking (3) of fibers (4) with an adhesive (2) bonding. Particles (5) of natural or plastics granules are between the flocking fibers. The grip surface is heated by an open flame so that the flocking shrinks and/or fuses to the surface.
