Removal of hemicelluloses (I) from hemicullulose-containing biomaterials involves: (a) extraction of (I) by treating the material with a complex compound in aqueous solution to form a soluble complex of (I); and (b) separation of the complexed (I) from the material. Independent claims are also included for: (1) hemicelluloses obtained by this method; and (2) modified biomaterial with a residual hemicellulose content of less than 8% preferably less than 4% obtained by this method. |
