<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic equipment capable of ensuring a display function even in a folded state (a closed state), and obtaining effective stereo effects, and to provide a portable telephone. <P>SOLUTION: A lid 2 is rotated by 180° and is closed again, thus setting a viewer mode state shown in Figure. When it is determined that the viewer mode state is being selected, first and second speakers 7L and 7R are driven for executing stereo reproduction processing, thus emitting reproduction sound from the first and second speakers 7L, 7R as virtually shown, and enabling a user to obtain stereo and surround effects in the viewer mode state.
