摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic garnet for an optical attenuator which suppresses a steep change of a Faraday rotation angle in perpendicular magnetic field control, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the thick film single crystal magnetic garnet for the optical attenuator, which has a composition expressed by a general formula (R, Bi)<SB>3</SB>(Fe, M)<SB>5</SB>O<SB>12</SB>(here, R is at least a kind out of Gd and Yb, and M is at least a kind out of Al and Ga) and is developed with a liquid phase epitaxial growth method on a Nd<SB>3</SB>Ga<SB>5</SB>O<SB>12</SB>single crystal, and includes a step to make the residual ratio of growth induced magnetic anisotropy 15-30%.
