PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk apparatus capable of suppressing deterioration of a search time regardless of a state of a disk. SOLUTION: When search operation starts, an eccentricity of a disk 1 is measured by using a circuit 14 for counting the number of tracks and a direction detecting circuit 21 and a tracking error signal level is measured by using a tracking error signal level detecting circuit 20. On the basis of the measured eccentricity of the disk 1 and the tracking error signal level, maximum speeds at the time of rough search and fine search are set by maximum speed setting part 22, and the rough search and the fine search are performed at the set maximum speed.
