The charge-air cooler has flow channels comprising inner ribs across which the charge air flows, with liquid coolant flowing round them. The flow channels (30) have an inlet or outlet cross section for the charge air and a length (LRO) between the inlet and outlet cross section. The inner ribs (31) in the flow channels have a longitudinal extension (LIR) which is shorter than the length.
