PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a foamed fibrous structure having approximately globular and independent holes, and excellent in cushioning property and heat retaining one by subjecting a fibrous structure to exhaustion treatment with a low molecular weight compound and then by subjecting the fibrous structure to the expansion treatment of the low molecular weight compound. SOLUTION: This foamed fibrous structure where approximately globular and independent holes having an average diameter equal to 0.001-0.2 times the diameter of a polyester fiber exist within the polyester fiber is produced by subjecting a fibrous structure made of a polyester having 0.04-0. 10 birefringence to exhaustion treatment with a low molecular weight compound such as carbon dioxide at >=1 MPa and <=50 deg.C so as for >=2% carbon dioxide to be absorbed after filling the fibrous structure in a high-pressure vessel such as an autoclave and introducing the low molecular weight compound such as carbon dioxide, and then by making the carbon dioxide expand through the soaking treatment of the fibrous structure in water at >=10 deg.C and <100 deg.C. |
