352,336. Protecting pipes. UNKE, H. A., 3217, Portman Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. Sept. 29, 1930, No. 29159. [Class 94 (i).] A protector device for the screwed ends of pipes, for instance of the type described in Specification 350,838, is provided with apertures to allow the escape of surplus substances used in coating or treating the pipes, such as pickling agents, water, japan, or enamel. The protector comprises a continuous sleeve 12 formed from sheet metal and provided with helically arranged spaced lugs 17 for engagement with the threads of the pipe, and having apertures 19 in an inturned flange 15 to allow the escape of the liquids. The apertures are preferably in axial alignment with the spaces between the lugs.
