A carriage (12), which is traversed (20 1, 20 2) across the yarn sheet (F), carries a feeler that slightly deflects individual yarns as it moves across them. It provides a force signal to a display (26) with a series of peaks and troughs as individual yarns slip off the edge of the feeler. The yarn tension uniformity can be evaluated from the shape of this trace. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A textile production installation with a creel and a reed for sizing, drying, warping or winding incorporating such a tension sensor after the reed; (2) A traversing carriage with such a deflecting feeler with transducer to provide a force trace; (3) The process of evaluating the individual yarn tensions from the shape of the trace.
