Generated on a first network node (NN) (2), an optical signal (OS) is received on a second NN (3). The second NN detects the OS luminous power (LP), which is checked as to whether it lies outside a defined range. If so, a control signal (CS) is generated on the first NN so as to increase or reduce the LP. The CS is sent to the first NN, where LP is increased/reduced for the OS on the first NN. An independent claim is also included for an optical network with multiple network nodes each with a transmitter and a receiver.
