Automatically braked castor wheel - with floating axle inside braking sleeve for resilient depression upon loading

The castor wheel (5) is made from a single plastic moulding and is held in the forked housing (1, 2) using a fixed axle stub (4), with the axle hole through the wheel with sufficient clearance to provide play. The wheel is held in a floating setting on the axle by an elastic spacer ring (8) between the wheel and the axle. As the castor is loaded the ring is depressed on the bottom section to increase the friction between the wheel and the axle. The amount of braking effect is not unduly increased with loading, while the unloaded setting still has some residual braking to prevent the furniture item from rolling away.
